Skeptica had the honor and pleasure of participating in the 2017 Atlanta Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Musicians of all genres were stationed along the walk route to keep the walkers entertained and motivated. Our location was about midway through the walk, on a major roadway still partially open to traffic, and the power for our gear was arranged through the car dealership on the corner. The car salesmen got the most entertainment as we were there early to warm up, so they had a private concert. And traffic certainly did a double take checking us out! We were near a light so folks would roll down their windows and listen and cheer or honk in appreciation.
We had the best time playing for this group of folks walking for the cause, especially since they varied in age from newborns in strollers, to senior citizen, and everything in between, and all walks of life (you can’t blame me for using the pun). It was fun to find music that would appeal to the masses. One surprising thing was learned from this… whether you are young or old, black or white, everyone has an appreciation for Metallica! We had more than one grandpa doing some headbanging to our Metallica covers. And that, my friends, is what it’s all about.
On a serious note, our Skeptica family has been touched by Alzheimer’s, so this was a cause that was near and dear to our hearts and fitting for us to participate in. We hope to do it again next year.
